Travertine Cleaning & Polishing

Travertine is a beautiful natural stone. However, like marble it needs to be maintained to keep its appearance. What happens over time is that pores in the stone naturally start to widen, this causes the stone to appear dull and lifeless, tightening the pores brings back or adds a natural sheen to the stone.

To carry out this process the travertine needs to be burnished. This involves using a set of diamond encrusted pads, starting with a low grit which helps clean the stone, up to a very fine grit, the travertine needs to be rinsed off between every grit, before the fine grit pad is applied which will leave a natural sheen finish. The floor is allowed to dry before sealing. A high shine seal can also be applied. Travertine is also prone to pitting, where parts of the stone may come loose and create holes. This can be rectified with flexible grout during restoration.
